Overview

I am definitely a big fan of the honest approach. As a music producer, I look for monitors with the flattest response possible, and I really appreciate a consumer speaker that is brave enough to get out of the way and listen to what the engineer has done.

Overly treated speakers can ruin a good audio engineer’s work, and I think it becomes difficult to know where to draw the line. The B6.2 is a confident, well thought out speaker that isn’t afraid, to be honest.

Build/Compatibility

ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 Bookshelf...

They have put a lot of thought into the physics of sound with this model. The redesigned cabinets are larger and internally braced in order to reduce cabinet vibration. The new tweeters feature wide-dispersion waveguide technology, which eliminates diffraction modes and avails a clearer and less resonant response.

They have also moved the bass port from the rear to the front, allowing for more options in speaker placement without fear of bass cancellation when placed in front of a wall. In terms of compatibility the transparency can allow for the amplifier’s character to come through, so put some thought into what you are introducing into the chain.

Sound

These units feature high-quality components from the top down. The new tweeters have a response up to 35KHz. This really brings out the airy quality in the high end. The stronger aramid fibre woofers are more rigid and produce a natural, uncoloured sound, with an accurate and well-defined low end to match and balance out the sound. If you’re not listening to low-quality mp3 files, you won’t have a problem with tinny harshness. These make a great level up for a newly established hi-fi enthusiast.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a heavily “enhancing” product that you can plug and play any youtube video through, then keep searching. These speakers are meant for the connoisseur, the purist. These speakers need to be paired with a reasonably good amplifier, and thought must be put into the environment in which they are to perform. I would recommend these speakers to the true audiophiles, who like to put on their favourite record and listen with their eyes closed,
