Home » Tech » Monitors » Best Video Conferencing Monitors

Thanks to tech companies that are vigorously innovating their products to better meet the demands, I was relieved to see some of the recent monitors that hit the market in 2020, to solve my own video conferencing dilemmas during quarantine times.

Here is a list of six monitors that I would recommend for video conferencing. Out of these six, the HP E24d G4 FHD monitor appealed to me the most, and here is why.

Recommended Monitors for Video Conferencing

Our Video Conferencing Pick: HP E24d G4 24″ Advanced Docking Monitor

Webcam Resolution: Retractable/pop-up FHD webcam with a built-in microphone
Size: 24″, 1.9 x 21.2 x 12.7 inches
Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080p
Panel Type: LCD IPS
Inputs: HDMI, USB-C, DisplayPort
Response Time: 5 ms GTG

What we like: Durable build; great for work from home use, 100-watt USB-C connection, Virtual KVM switch

Not so much: No adaptive sync and built-in speakers, Difficult to use OSD control buttons, Low contrast and coloring schemes

I am suggesting HP E24d G4 over all the others because this product perfectly fulfilled what I wanted out of a video conferencing display. As I wanted to buy a new set-up for my workstation at home, this monitor seemed like the best choice.

It has a good resolution camera, a decent speaker system, a good array of output ports. Even when there are other monitors of HP, like HP EliteDisplay that not only has a bigger display but lacks USB-C for upstream.

Similarly, with Philips Brilliance 329P9H, the monitor has a better display, but its webcam quality is questionable when compared with HP E34d G4.

Webcam

There is a new infrared webcam, that is retractable, at the top of the monitor. If you prefer to use Windows, their new Face Detection sign-in feature works with this monitor. The webcam comes with an internal microphone as well. The retractable aspect gives more privacy to the user. I found this feature to be better than sticking a piece of tape over the webcam.

Design and Display

If you’re going for a more ergonomic monitor both in terms of build and features, then HP E24d G4 could be the solution for you. It has an impressive 21.2 x 19.5 x 7.5 inches dimension build and contains a FHD 1920 x 1080 screen resolution. Its connectivity ports include a USB-C, USB-C downstream, USB 3.1×4, DisplayPort 1.2×1, HDMI 1.4×1, and more. Its aspect ratio is 16:9 and a 250 cd/m2 brightness.

With two USB-C ports, you can get 100 watts of charging power and 15 watts for the downstream one. The monitor also supports daisy-chaining multiple monitors. It can also be connected to a LAN.

However, there is a lack of a backlight and a brightness quotient of 350 cd/ms2. The display has thin bezels, and there are no glare issues with the display. Features to Look for Before Purchasing Monitors for Video Conferencing

One of the most common questions I get asked often is if there is a checklist to follow when deciding to get an optimum monitor for video conferencing. To that, I say, from experience, here is a list of important features that you should always look for before purchasing one.

Webcam Quality

If you require a monitor that comes with a built-in webcam for personal use, a decent FHD camera with a single microphone shall be useful. If you are looking to buy monitors in bulk for video conferencing, you might have to consider webcams that function well even in a low-light situation and have clear image quality.

Microphones and Sound

For video conferencing, having a good microphone is absolutely vital. Always opt for monitors that have built-in microphones that sound clear and natural. Ensure that your set-up comes with a built-in speaker and microphone to help cut the price.

Display

You should always look if the product that you have set your eyes on had an LED display or an LCD one. LEDs are more energy-efficient. They do not strain the eyes that much if the display color and contrast are set to your suiting. LCD displays have longer battery lives, but their images are less vivid in comparison.

You should also consider if you want a display type that works best with multiple monitor screens, depending on your needs.

Resolution

Given how impressive picture quality has become over the past decade, a monitor that does not offer a Full HD or 4K display is not worth it. A higher-quality resolution also means better video quality while conferencing. You should also think about eyes protections and reading text. Choose a screen that has night mode or night light feature.

Mounting Height

A monitor that comes with an adjustable viewing position should be a priority. Your monitors’ screens should always be at your eye level so that your neck does not strain if you spend more time in front of the screen.

Angles

We have seen a wide increase in demand for curved angled screens, as it allows the user to have a comfortable position to view their monitors.

Space Size

If the chosen product is to be used for meetings or conference rooms, you need monitors that have more than 42-inch screens. For personal use, a 30-inch or more is ideal. Choose a smaller monitor for a smaller space.

Your Budget

And last but not least, it all boils down to whether you can afford it or not. Be smart about your choices in this regard. At Cybepunkist we’ve done a review of some of the best 27-inch monitors under $200.

In Conclusion

All in all, all of the products featured above are spectacular in their respective areas, it is how you want to use them that makes them better than the rest. In an overview, the best monitor for video conferencing according to your needs should have minimal external hardware accessories and more built-in features for your ease.
